Very delicious food, if you want to try something new this is the place!
If you want eat something amazing. Visit Japanese Pancake World. Really!!!
It's a little restaurant so I would advise to make reservations. We had ordered 2 different okonomiyaki but it took them over 50 mins to prepare and serve. What looked very delicious turned out to be bit bland and not exactly what was expected.
We went and tried this place. We never thought it would turn out bad. Especially because it's japanese. - Kara age: made from chicken skins and fat normally discarded.- Kaki age: menu mentioned seafood, but only made with onions, bean sprout and leeks.- Pancakes: menu mentioned "Jumbo" shrimps, but only 3 small shrimps.- Pancake hot plate was rusty inside and out.- Animal hair was found in one of our orders.
It’s been a year since i moved out of Amsterdam.... What happened ??? It used to be way better.First of all, the counter in front of the kitchen is not accessible anymore, what a shame it was pur favorite spot.Second, what happened to the soft drinks ?? It used to be directly the bottle+glasses, now they serve your drink in a glasses and you don’t even know where it comes from. My sparkling water was definitely not from a fresh bottle since the bubble where non existent...Third, the pancake seems a little bit smaller..Is the restaurant now reducing costs ??What a shame...
The staff were great and the food was even better! Just be aware the menu descriptions don't show everything in the dish, make sure to ask what's in each pancake if you're a picky eater! As other reviewers have said it can take some time as there seems to be only a single employee!
The Okonomiyaki are truly authentic but you need to plan ahead: Order a table and expect your dishes to be served in at least one to two hours. I don’t know why but this seem to be a one man business.
Delicious okonomiyaki! A lot of choices too! But be aware it will take about 30min to prepare. And the place doesnt have many seats so you have to be lucky.
It is best to call ahead of time and make a reservation. We went in for lunch, talked with the owner who is very kind, we sat at the grill watched him make the pancakes, my husband had the seafood which was packed. The food was delicious and filling. Can't wait to revisit.
Not an expert but this place I like it very much. Very good portions
Nice pancakes. Good taste. But definitely on the expensive side. €5,- for a small bowl of miso soup was not worth it. The Cola tasted strange.
Really really great food. Oke it’s not fast food be patient and you will be rewarded. Will visit again
A one-of-a-kind foodstuff -- there aren't very many Japanese-style pancake establishments in Europe, so this place is to be savored. People don't think of pancakes when it comes to Japanese cuisine, so the variety of rib-sticking dishes here makes me happy. Forget ramen, forget omakase, this is the real carb-heavy deal. This shop has been around for 16 years, so bow in respect for the O.G.
Okonomiyaki were delicious, and the milky lemonade was very refreshing
Food was great to discover but the atmosphere was lackluster. Not cosy, not comfortable. The chef was very nice but i still left hungry. Good to try
Best Japanese pancakes in town! Great service.
Japanese fish pancake was good !
Best okonomyaki ever!I've been in Japan 2 weeks and this is still the best I ever tried, better than London too.Don't be scared because there are some really inusual combos or ingredients, you must try it! (Maybe for the first time just go easy with something classic or a little bit more)Unpredictable plasure!!!!
I really loved how authentic this place is! They stay true to the traditional Japanese culture and offer 3 different types of okonomiyaki with a bunch of toping combinations (no chicken though, but marinated beef, cheese, mushroom and seafood are among the other toppings) on the menu it does warn you that it will take 30 min to prepare your pancake because it's made fresh in front of your eyes. They have an open kitchen similar to the ones in Japan. The staff are also very kind. d It's a very quaint and tiny restaurant with a max of 7-10 tables so come when you have time and make a reservation if you can.
Cosy. Its a small place with great food and friendly service!
Very friendly service and absolutely delicious food. I'd never heard of Japanese pancakes before, so this was a first for me. Highly recommended
We waited for almost one hour to get our food. We ordered two pancakes and fried chicken. The pancake were really dry and salty. The chicken were too small and tasted bad. Even the sparkling water doesn't have enough bubbles. My friend ordered a motcha milk shake, it tasted more like the milk and little mocha taste. So one star for the pancake world. :)
Not very crowded place, nice to enjoy a nice evening with friends. It's small so better to reserve in advance. Reservation is only possible by phone.Food is very nice and tasty. Apart from Japanese pancakes you can have nice Japanese beer (Asahi, Sapporo,...) and Japanese ice cream.Friendly staff.
It's an ok place but they got our order mixed up. Not measurable with the Japanese okonomiyaki but it's an unfair race. You get a lot though.
The only restaurant in Amsterdam that serves okonomiyaki, a wonderful Japanese pancake. Small room with a few places and not easy to find. The kitchen is a mezzanine floor with a view of the plate. The chef invited us to follow the stages of preparing and baking the pancakes.
Good okonomiyaki. 3 different types of pancake with different toppings. Really good experience. The waiter was a bit slow and food took long, but this is already mentioned on the menu because they cook it the “original†way. That takes about 30 min. Price range from 10-20 Eur is quite expensive but you get good quality. Also the fried chicken is good and has wasabi mayo with it. Love it.
Really nice food, tasty and a bit over priced, the reason is that of course the hefty can handle only few people per dinner, in 1 h and 1/2 he managed only 15 people
Really nice and unique food. But a bit overpriced.
The waiter was extremely friendly and polite, and food was tasty. However, decoration and atmosphere were quite cheap, compare to the quality of food and service. Restaurant is pretty small, around four tables.
Located in the picturesque streets of the Jordaan, this restaurant has more than it's location going for it! The staff is extremely inviting and kind. Just for those two reasons I'd give it 3 stars. The food is what gives them the 5. Traditional Japanese pancakes to the T! Perfectly done and delicious. We will definitely be back for more and more and more! Thanks guys!
Expensive and not worth the money... mine was burnt and tasted burnt, one was fine and the last was undercooked... the waiting time was an hour even though there was only one table besides us. We were only offered drinks once while the chef and waiter was standing in the kitchen drinking coffee. When I informed the waiter that my food was burnt, I was told that it is supposed to taste burned by the chef (who earlier had admitted he had nothing to do with Japan)... we then hear the waiter and chef argue (waiter wanting to give us a discount but the chef said no as it would admit that they were wrong). Unprofessional and not worth the money you spend (almost 80 Euro for 3 people with 1 drink each) - highly recommend that you stay away
This restaurant is another proof that the best Japanese restaurants are focused on one kind of food. Of course you wait long because it’s absolutely fresh made. Definitely the best Japanese pancakes we had since we left Asia.
Although the looks of the place are not the best, I was really glad to find another offering of Japanese Pancakes in town and boy they were really tasty. They offer many different styles, according to regions in Japan. A place to go back for sure!
The pancakes were interesting but I wasnt Impressed with them. The guys serving are very helpful and kind. We waited about 30+ minutes to get our order for 2 pancakes. Place is overpriced and you can get better options for those prices.
It's tasty, original and not too expensive. I love this place so much that I always make a point of coming here to eat whenever I'm visiting The Netherlands.
“A different and nice option to try.â€I have to clarify that is not an incredibly original savoury place. It's a great place to have lunch and get a different mix of ingredients than a broodje or poached eggs. The service was truly nice! Seat in the kitchen bar in order to see the cooking process.
Really good authentic Japanese pancakes, with every topping you can imagine. Small and quaint venue
Lovely place, lovely guy running, slightly odd combination of pancake and noodles but it worked. Great stuff
The seafood pancake was too salty. The matcha milkshake is just milk with matcha powder. Karaage are super dry and tiny. It serves no authentic Japanese food, although the service was good.
To be honest the pancake here was mediocre, and expensive. The texture was not really right...I would not call it "tasty". Anyway it was still nice to have a taste of that in Europe. Also, that was my longest wait for a Japanese pancake in my life.
Don’t go there if you’re hungry because you’ll be waiting for your food for at least one hour. Staff is very nice and helpful. Food is ok but in my opinion it’s way overpriced. BEWARE you will walk out of there smelling like fried food...for another week. I had to give my coat to dry cleaners after a visit there. I have been to many places with an open kitchen but never have I smelled that badly. Must improve ventilation.
Tiny place serving Japanese pancakes. I've only had these a few times in London so it is possible that I've never had an authentic one but previously I have enjoyed them. Unfortunately this time I really didn't - they were somehow much more dense and the sauce was too sweet. I felt like it's eaten a rock afterwards.
Delicious food and great service.
Food tasted good, but service was lacking. Server didn't come by to check on us or to offer drinks when we ran out
Authentic Japanese pancakes right here in Amsterdam, the owner truly makes unique combinations which, according to the owner, are not even made in Japan itself. Be prepared to wait a bit for your freshly prepared pancake, but well worth it.The place is small and decorations are very very minimal, for the best experience try to sit upstairs and see how the chef makes his pancakes!
Great pancakes friendly staff and they serve proper cold sake
Worst restaurant I’ve ever had the displeasure to walk through its threshold.
I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when a friend took us here for okonomiyaki. This must be one of the only places in Amsterdam that does it. We've been here twice and have sat at the bar and at a table, but I'd highly recommend the bar if you can so you can watch the chefs make the dishes.
Excellent pancakes. What a treat. Great chef. However, cutlery and glasses were a bit dirty :-(
Very expensive. Underwhelming okonomyaki. I think mine was a bit burned actually. I had to add a lot of sauce to make it tasty
